Equational Abstraction Refinement for Certified Tree Regular Model Checking

چکیده
Tree Regular Model Checking (TRMC) is the name of a family of techniques for analyzing infinite-state systems in which states are represented by trees and sets of states by tree automata. The central problem is to decide whether a set of bad states belongs to the set of reachable states. An obstacle is that this set is in general neither regular nor computable in finite time. This paper proposes a new CounterExample Guided Abstraction Refinement (CEGAR) algorithm for TRMC. Our approach relies on a new equational-abstraction based completion algorithm to compute a regular overapproximation of the set of reachable states in finite time. This set is represented by R/E-automata, a new extended tree automaton formalism whose structure can be exploited to detect and remove false positives in an efficient manner. Our approach has been implemented in TimbukCEGAR, a new toolset that is capable of analyzing Java programs by exploiting an elegant translation from the Java byte code to term rewriting systems. Experiments show that TimbukCEGAR outperforms existing CEGAR-based completion algorithms. Contrary to existing TRMC toolsets, the answers provided by TimbukCEGAR are certified by Coq, which means that they are formally proved correct.

Verification of Programs with Complex Data
In this thesis, we discuss methods of model checking of infinite-state space systems based on symbolic verification—in particular, we concentrate on the use of the so-called regular tree model checking. As a part of our original contribution, we first present abstract regular tree model checking (ARTMC), a technique based on a combination of regular tree model checking with an automated abstrac...
متن کاملCut - offs and Automata in Formal Verification of Infinite - State Systems Habilitation
In this habilitation thesis, we discuss two complementary approaches to formal verification of infinite-state systems—namely, the use cut-offs and automata-based symbolic model checking (especially the so-called regular model checking). The thesis is based on extended versions of multiple conference and journal papers joint into a unified framework and accompanied with a significantly extended ...
متن کاملAutomata-Based Abstraction Refinement for µHORS Model Checking
The model checking of higher-order recursion schemes (HORS), aka. higher-order model checking, is the problem of checking whether the tree generated by a given HORS satisfies a given property. It has recently been studied actively and applied to automated verification of higher-order programs. Kobayashi and Igarashi studied an extension of higher-order model checking called μHORS model checking...
متن کاملXX Incremental Bisimulation Abstraction Refinement
ion refinement techniques in probabilistic model checking are prominent approaches to the verification of very large or infinite-state probabilistic concurrent systems. At the core of the refinement step lies the implicit or explicit analysis of a counterexample. This paper proposes an abstraction refinement approach for the probabilistic computation tree logic (PCTL), which is based on increme...
متن کاملAutomata-Based Abstraction for Automated Verification of Higher-Order Tree-Processing Programs
Higher-order model checking has been recently applied to automated verification of higher-order functional programs, but there have been difficulties in dealing with algebraic data types such as lists and trees. To remedy the problem, we propose an automata-based abstraction of tree data, and a counterexample-guided refinement of the abstraction. By combining them with higher-order model checki...
